My name is Pam Winters and I’m an artist, designer, illustrator, cartoonist and maker based in San Diego. I particularly enjoy working with graphic and website design, illustration and more. Depending on the project, I work with clients, fellow creatives, as well as on my own, producing work that is original and inspired. While drawing has been a mainstay in my creative endeavors, I also love paper and making things with it, including invitations, greeting cards, decorations, ornaments, gift wrap, etc. A natural extension of this type of work has led to custom invitations (both printed and digital) for many clients. Other custom items I have made for events include monogram and logo art, life-size cutouts, programs, table numbers and menus, to name a few.
Because I have always been interested in art and academics, I chose the academic path, and graduated magna cum laude from the University of California, San Diego, with a bachelor’s degree in political science and Russian and Soviet studies, before turning my attention to artistic pursuits. From 1998-2005, I worked as a self-syndicated editorial cartoonist and was regularly published in a number of newspapers throughout California, including the San Diego Union-Tribune, the San Francisco Chronicle, the San Jose Mercury News, and the Sacramento Bee, as well as in the Washington Post National Weekly Edition and in several editions of the Best Editorial Cartoons of the Year books.
Then I decided to go back to school for a second degree in order to concentrate on learning the necessary computer programs, as well as acquiring programming and digital design skills, that would allow me to do more with the art, graphics and drawings that I have always created by hand, as well as on the computer. I graduated with my second bachelor’s, a B.S. in web design and interactive media, from the Art Institute of California—San Diego, in 2011. While at the Art Institute, I learned that I particularly enjoy making websites and motion graphics. Both are areas in which I am able to easily incorporate my original art and designs with exciting results. The decision to go back to school helped me achieve a well-rounded education and approach to my work.
